The stabilizing function of the liquid crystal stabilizer is mainly to reduce the radial and axial vibration of the drill string elastic system in the hole; reduce the bit and drill pipe eccentric wear; ensure the quality of core; prevent well deviation or use manual directional drilling. The structure of the liquid crystal stabilizer is relatively simple, which is a large diameter joint with ribs (straight or spiral). The liquid crystal stabilizer can be divided into drill string type and bottom hole type.

Bottom hole type: used for anti-deflection of the full-bore drilling tool assembly or increase deflection when rotating. The diameter of the working section should be as close as possible to the diameter of the drill bit and be installed next to the drill bit in order to restrain the lateral swing of the drill bit. Its characteristic is that both ends are female buckles.

Drill string type: used to form a full-hole drill tool assembly or a pendulum clock drill tool assembly. It should be designed to be undersized, and its outer diameter should be 5-10mm smaller than the drill bit. It is longer than the bottom hole type liquid crystal stabilizer, and the lower end is a male buckle and the upper end is a female buckle. As a pendulum drill tool assembly, the drill string type liquid crystal stabilizer is more severely stressed, so the failure frequency is higher .
